Abstract
This study was done for the purpose of analyzing the relationship between adolescents¡¯ life change events and their health states. The hypothesis tested was that Adolescents¡¯ life change events score are positively related to their self reported health problem score. The study employed a crose-sectional survey design, data were gathered using questionnaire in september, 1983. The subjects were 225 senier students in Kang-Nam Ku, Seoul who were selected by stratified systimatic sampling method. The instrument used for this study were the Adolescents¡¯ Life Change Events Scale which was developed by Lee and Cho, Yeaworth and the Cornell Medical Index. Analysis of data was done by Pearson¡¯s Correlation Coefficient and Analysis of Variance, t-Test The results of the study were as follows; 1) Regarding the hypothesis, the relationship between Adolescents¡¯ Life Change Events Score was statistically significant (r=.2295, p£¼.001) Regarding to retest the hypothesis, the relationship between Adolescents¡¯ Life Change Events Score and their self reported physical health problem score was statistically significant (r=.2617, p£¼.001) and the relationship between Adolescents¡¯ Life Change Event Score and their self reported mental health problem score was statistically significant (r=.1322, p£¼.05) 2) Total mean score of Adolescents¡¯ Life Change Event was 826.92, and the mean score of boy Students Life Change Events score was 1,052.69, the mean score of girl students Life Change Events score was 625.79. The most common life change events experienced by adolescents were school and learning problems and the least common life change events were problems of frendship with opposite sex. Total mean score of Adolescents¡¯ self reported health problems was 34.90, and the mean score of physical health problems was 21.69, the mean score of mental health problems was 13.21. (3) When the relationships between Adolescents general characteristics and their self reported health problem score were explored, only sex was significantly related to health problem score (t=-6.81, p£¼.001) The findings of this study have implications for nursing intervention and research to help Adolescents especially senior high school students adjust to life change events and to maintain health state.
